'The first question I get asked is: 'What is the recovery like after a facelift and neck lift surgery?'
- In general, I would say the recovery is not that bad. There are procedures that are much more difficult. The first week is the hardest, and the first three days are the most critical for my patients.
- I recommend staying completely flat during the first 48 hours so that all the swelling can go down. That is actually the most difficult part, because you have to remain lying down. I also recommend not talking much on the phone, so as not to exercise the facial muscles.
- And if you’re going to watch something, it should be looking toward the ceiling, to avoid keeping the head elevated. The less you are in an upright position, the better it will be for the swelling and for any fluid to drain away. Regarding pain, we give you medication, so it is uncomfortable but tolerable.

The Critical Window: The first 3 days (72 hours) are the most important for a successful recovery.
Positioning is Key: Resting flat for the first 48 hours is essential to minimize swelling and aid fluid drainage.
Facial Rest: Patients are advised to limit talking (including phone calls) to avoid straining facial muscles during the initial healing phase.
Pain Management: While some discomfort is expected, it is typically well-managed with the prescribed post-operative medication.
Activity: Keeping the head in a neutral position (looking up rather than down at a screen) helps prevent increased pressure and swelling in the face and neck.
